Large salt deposit in Central Nova Scotia.
Beaver Brook, Nova Scotia
For Sale or Option
Property Description
The Beaver Brook salt deposit is located southwest of Truro, Nova Scotia, within the Minas sub-basin. Geological studies indicate moderate deformation in the area compared to other salt deposits in the region. A gravity survey in the 1960s identified a significant anomaly, leading to the drilling of two wells. One well reached a depth of 733 meters, confirming a salt mass starting at 630 meters with 81-98% NaCl. This hole was abandoned in salt.
Underground Hydrocarbon Storage Potential
Geophysical studies, including seismic, aeromagnetic, and gravity data, have helped model the subsurface geology. Gravity modelling suggests the salt deposit may be much thicker than initially expected, possibly extending to 1,700 meters. This could make the site excellent candidate for underground hydrocarbon storage.
In Nova Scotia, in order to receive a Hydrocarbon Storage-Area License, the applicant must be the holder of the mineral rights covering the area of the proposed project. 21Alpha Resources Inc. is the sole owner of mineral rights at the Beaver Brook property.
Exploration & Solution Mining Potential
Deeper drilling at the Beaver Brook salt deposit could confirm its potential for solution mining by providing insight into its thickness, composition, and structural stability. While current data indicates the presence of a significant medium to high-purity salt mass, these additional wells would help verify the consistency of NaCl concentrations and delineate the full extent of the deposit, which is expected to reach depths of over 2,300 meters. This process would also identify any geological features that could affect cavern stability, ensuring favourable conditions for brine extraction. By validating these factors, continued exploration would reinforce the site's viability as a long-term solution mining project for rural Nova Scotia.
Funding
Nova Scotia offers grants through its Mineral Resources Development Fund (MRDF). The Beaver Brook Salt Project would be an excellent candidate to receive up to $100K through the shared funding stream.
